JAN BOELO | FALL WINTER 2012-2013 | AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK
upcoming star designer jan boelo showed his fall winter 1213 collection sunday january 29 in the afternoon. it was a great show, we loved it.
jan boelo took his inspiration from new york city rich kids who are both rock & roll and classy, the ones who got it all and don’t give a f*** about anything but partying and abusing their dad’s platinum credit card. jan boelo’s collections are inspired by bands from the late 60′s and 70′s, the live element was vital to this show, so was kick ass attitude.
walk in music was just one song: the velvet underground’s sunday morning. we opened the show with fuck off by wayne county & the electric chairs. a song we could only use in amsterdam due to the foul language. other tracks included sheena is a punk rocker by the ramones, jet boy by the new york dolls and the sweet’s ballroom blitz. finale was the runaways’ cherry bomb. this was a fast show, everybody on the team kicked major derriere. we can’t wait for next season. in the mean time, have a listen to what we did for this season below.
SUPERTRASH | FALL WINTER 2012-2013 | AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK
on saturday january 28 women power fashion label supertrash showed it’s fall winter 12-13 collection at the passenger terminal amsterdam. about 2000 people attended the show and the hype was on, this was going to be the big one. supertrash delivered.
the collection was based on legendary nightclub studio54 and 70′s global phenomena biba, combining the glitter and glamour of the disco era with art deco. top models paraded on shiny killer heels over an even more glitzy golden catwalk, for 15 minutes amsterdam turned into las vegas at it’s very best.
we made a mix reminiscent of the disco era without using any vintage disco apart from a sample from instant funk’s ‘i got my mind made up’. the mix spelled glamour, nightlife, luxury, living life at it’s very best and women on top.
needless to say this show was the talk of the town. big up to olcay gulsen and her team. great to be part of this event again.
CAST IRON | FALL WINTER 2012-2013 | AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK
friday january 27 we did the music for the very first show of premium denim brand cast iron. the collection’s theme was ‘where are the knights of the 21st century?’. it was a huge production with lots of special effects, video’s, live musicians, heavy decors and a good bunch of bearded and tough men models.
the show had complicated cues and hardly any rehearsal time, but together with the amsterdam fashion week crew and star choreographers bas & nathalie we made it happen.
we used music by justice, woodkid, sebastian and many more and mixed it up with japanese drums and sound scores of heroic movies and created a castle-wall of sound. needless to say it was an epic larger than life show and the crowd loved it.
SIS BY SPIJKERS EN SPIJKERS | FALL WINTER 2012-2013 | AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK
the successful arnhem based brand spijkers en spijkers showed their second more affordable line sis on thursday january 26th at amsterdam fashion week.
like always their collection was inspired by a strong female personality, this time bonnie parker from bonnie and clyde was the main influence for their fall winter 2012-2013 show, so we knew the mix had to spell danger, romance and classy sleaze. we took the tempo down and used music by pulp, serge gainsbourg and brigitte bardot, emiliana torrini and the great smokey voice of little annie. we added a few riffle shots and a continuous steady beat to give the mix more attitude and make sure the music was the steady engine of the show. the mix had to be no nonsense, it was all about showing a great collection without too much hassle music wise.
reviews say it was their best sis show so far and we agree. we loved every look. it’s great to be part of the spijkers en spijkers team, we can’t wait for london fashion week where they’ll show their high end line.

BAS KOSTERS | FALL WINTER 2012-2013 | AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK
bas kosters showed his fall winter 12/13 collection called ’1-2-tree’ at the opening night of amsterdam fashion week. the collection was inspired by the human dependence on technology (specially telephones) and the longing for the simplicity of nature. the enfant terrible of the dutch fashion scene delivered big time.
bas kosters’ colorful shows are known to be crossing all possible borders and thus opening peoples minds. freedom of expression is one of the most important values to this designer. the pressure was on for this one, we had to make sure it would be more impressive than his last show, it was not going to be easy. we had to take risks.
because the show was about the insanity of modern day life and telephones we created a mix which is best described as a sound score to a musical in a mental institution during carnival. we used songs about telephones, from the 50′s and 60′s to from milli vanilli and italo rock-disco to lady gaga and the latest techno noise. we mixed in songs about nature and spiced it all up with special effects like nightingales, voice mail messages, cows, count downs and goats. we went all the way: it was great to finally push lionel ritchie’s ‘hello’ into jesse taylor is dead’s death metal track ‘telephone’.
we were pretty nervous before hand: we stopped the show a few times to create an awkward silence followed by a voice telling people all operators were busy and to please hold the line. we had no idea how the crowd would react. during the stops models went to a freeze, like time stood still. thank god the press and crowd attending loved it.
SJAAK HULLEKES | FALL WINTER 2012 – 2013 | AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK
dutch menswear designer sjaak hullekes opened the fall winter 2012-2013 shows at amsterdam fashion week on wednesday january 25th.
inspired by cult movie pink narcissus and the magic city of marrakesh, the sjaak hullekes fall winter 12/13 collection featured almost naked dancers, a great underwear collection and superb menswear in beautiful colors. big up to sjaak hullekes and his crew, it was an honor to be part of this truly breathtaking experience.
our mix resembled an opium trip in northern africa. a constant flow of hallucinating modern day arabic music supported the parading male harem.
during rehearsals we found out we had to cut the show music and so we did, of course no one noticed. we have put the original full length mix online for you. enjoy the magic carpet ride.
SINGING IN THE RAIN | A PRESENT TO AMSTERDAM FASHION WEEK
to keep the spirits up in times of lousy weather we have decided to post a mix which was never used. it’s a gift to all attending, showing and working at amsterdam fashion week, we hope everybody will be singing along this week. the lyrics are easy, most probably every one of you knows the words.
singing in the rain was originally made for a show in milano where the audience was supposed to stand on a patio while heavy rain poured over them. all would get an umbrella, specially designed for the occasion. male top models had to form a semi-fake choir and lip-sync the whole show. a great idea, but also a little far fetched, so at the end the show never happened.
JAN TAMINIAU | FALL WINTER 2012-2013 | HAUTE COUTURE WEEK PARIS
monday january 23 we were in paris at the jan taminau haute couture fall winter 2012-2013 show. the collection was, amongst other side themes, about saving the concept of beauty in times of economic struggle. jan taminiau delivered big time with his female high priests who looked somewhere in between a barbarella, cinderella and daftpunk. we made a mix with music by alva noto, abigail fischer, nico muhly and phillip glass. we added repetitive panting female voices to give the show the sexual tension it needed. we loved working on this project and truly love jan taminiau and his team. jan taminiau’s designs are worn by lady gaga and members of the dutch royal family amongst others.
BOOKS MODELS READ
being a model at fashion shows often means spending lots of time back stage, waiting for hair and make up, waiting for the show to start. not many people know models like to read books to kill the time and thus feeding their hungry brains with literature, science and culture. who says models are empty headed?
because we have to spend time waiting too, we started a new hobby: making photos of models and their books. the coming year we will be spotting books and their owners back stage in new york, amsterdam, paris, london, berlin, rome. we have no idea what to do with the final results yet, let’s see what the future brings. the guy on the left is jack, he is reading the eric clapton biography.
SCOTCH & SODA | FALL WINTER 2012-2013 | AMSTERDAM
successful dutch brand scotch & soda showed it’s strong and colorful fall winter 2012-2013 collection for their sales and marketing crew on tuesday january 17. the male and female models showed almost 80 looks while our mix blasted out of the speakers. we used songs by indie bands like cold war kids, the black keys, foster the people, boyce avenue, crystal fighters, florence and the machine and many more and added tons of extra rhythms to secure a great and energetic show. big up to scotch & soda!
